Auspex sensor reticle

The Swiss-army knife for AV networks

Auspex is an app that listens to mDNS / Bonjour announcements continuously, organises every device by manufacturer, type or service, and gives you the live network telemetry you actually need on-site - DHCP server detection, PTP grandmaster identification, IGMP querier health, LLDP neighbours and more. It is designed for the AV industry but is the ultimate swiss army knife tool for anyone trying to track down network issues.

Auspex is built for the people staring at a Dante network at 3am wondering why three devices have gone offline.

Features

Continuous mDNS / Bonjour discovery

Built on a multi-NIC mDNS listener that does not give up when one of your interfaces refuses IPv4. Auto-detects Audinate Dante, NewTek NDI, QSC Q-SYS, Crestron, Shure, Sennheiser, Biamp, Symetrix, AirPlay, Sonos and dozens more out of the box.

Slice the network three ways

Group by manufacturer, device type, or service type with one click. A picker overlay lets you pin only the categories you care about, so the rail does not drown in printers and AppleTVs when you are looking for NDI endpoints.

Live online indicators

Every device shows a colour-coded status dot and "last seen 3s ago" - so you can tell at a glance whether the rack room cabinet just dropped offline, or whether a device that used to be there has vanished.

Hard-scan subnets for AV ports

For the kit that does not advertise via mDNS - older Crestron, generic IP cameras, dumb switches - Auspex can TCP probe every host on each NIC for common AV ports (Q-SYS Designer 4321, Crestron CIP 41794, RTSP, web admin, SSH) and merge what it finds into the device list.

TACHYON live visualiser

A real-time waterfall of every mDNS announcement as it lands. Time flows right-to-left; each device pulses on the right edge when it announces and drifts left over 30 seconds. Click any blip to drill into that device's detail.

TRICORDER network diagnostics

An automated continuous sweep of the AV-networking nightmares: rogue or duplicate DHCP servers, IGMP querier election (with Npcap), PTP grandmaster identification and clock-class reporting, SSDP / UPnP discovery, NTP server traffic, LLDP neighbours, and a multicast-island health check on every NIC.

Persistent across sessions

Auspex remembers what was on the network last time you ran it - gated by the current network signature so it does not pollute one site's view with another's. Devices come back online when they re-announce; long-gone gear quietly drops off after 30 seconds.

Click-to-launch tools

Port 80 or 443 open? Open the device's web admin in your browser. Port 22 open? Hand off to PuTTY (or any SSH client - configurable in Settings). One-click copy of MAC, IP and hostname so you can paste them into a ticket without re-typing.

CSV / JSON export

Hand a network audit to a client in two clicks. CSV for opening in Excel, JSON for scripting and inventory systems.

Windows

Native windows app, Apple MAC version is coming soon.

From the team behind the gear

Auspex is built by Noise Productions Ltd - the same crew behind Virtual Video Director, Lumanoid, WhistleBlower and Clip. We make broadcast and event tech for live productions in New Zealand and beyond, and we built Auspex because the existing mDNS browsers were were using were pretty garbage on real AV networks.
